Ethereum - Pectra blockchain update in the Holesky test network led to errors

On February 24, on the era 115 968, Ethereum developers activated the hard fork, as a result of which the network stopped finalizing the slots.

According to Ethereum Foundation, the upgrade "was faced with the configuration problem on three main customers of the network." Corrections are already ready and operators need to update the software. The leading developer Tim Beiko noted that the identified bug does not affect the main network and is associated with the features of Holesky.

According to the road map, the deployment of Pectra in the Sepolia test network will be held on March 5, and on the main network in early April.

Ethereum Pectra

Ethereum Pectra is a large-scale update of Ethereum, aimed at increasing speed, scalability and ease of use of a network for ordinary users and developers.

The update will be launched in 2025 and will be held in two stages:

The first stage (beginning of 2025):

  • Account abstraction (the ability to pay for gas other tokens, except ETH)
  • Improvements for validators
  • Flexible withdrawal of funds from stakeing

The second stage (expected launch in 2026):

  • EVM Object Format (EOF) to increase the efficiency of smart contracts
  • PEERDAS to improve the scalability of the second level

Key features of update:

  1. Account abstraction
  • The possibility of paying for gas commissions by other tokens (USDC, DAI)
  • The possibility of sponsoring commissions to the third parties
  1. Improvements for validators
  • Increase in stake limit from 32 to 2048 eth
  • The possibility of receiving remuneration for the amount of over 32 eth
  • Flexible withdrawal of funds from stakeing
  1. Technical improvements
  • Implementation of Verkla trees to optimize data storage
  • Improving EVM efficiency
  • Improving the second -level solutions using Peerdas

Influence on users:

For ordinary users:

  • Simplification of network interaction
  • The possibility of using other tokens to pay for commissions
  • Increasing the speed of transactions

For validators and steakers:

  • More efficient management of large volumes of ETH
  • The possibility of obtaining additional remuneration
  • Relief of the consolidation of validators

For developers:

  • Simplification of the deployment of smart contracts
  • Reducing the cost of development
  • Improving EVM efficiency

Long -term advantages:

  • Improved network scalability
  • Reduction in transaction costs
  • Increasing the overall efficiency of Ethereum
  • Preparation of the network for increasing the number of users and corporate customers

Pectra update is one of the most significant Ethereum improvements in recent years and is aimed at solving existing problems with commissions, scalability and ease of use of the network.
